Athens is the seat of McMinn County and home to Tennessee Wesleyan University, roughly midway between Knoxville and Chattanooga on I-75. Its courthouse square anchors a small downtown, with US-11 carrying traffic through the rest of town.
The McMinn County courthouse on the square and the Tennessee Wesleyan campus are the easiest landmarks to name.
